Puerto Rico among the best 50 samples of cocoa in the world

For the second time, cocoa from Puerto Rico is positioned in the top 50 in the world as part of the International Cocoa Awards, which recognize the work of cocoa producers internationally.

This time, three samples were sent following the call that was held at the end of last year in the National Contest of Fine Cocoa and Aroma. Of these, those of farmers David Valentín, of San Sebastián, and Gustavo Díaz, of Ciales were selected. Their samples were evaluated within the 223 received from 55 countries for the 2019 Edition of the Cocoa of Excellence Program, which seeks to distinguish cocoa producers worldwide, evaluating the quality they offer, from the physical evolution of the seed to the flavor attributes, and the genetic and sensory diversity of cocoa.

The next step will be on September, with the sensory evaluation of the 50 best samples processed in bitter chocolate by a panel of 40 experts. The winners will be announced during the ceremony that will take place on Wednesday, October 30, at the Salon du Chocolat in Paris.
